In Remembrance of Dawn
(by Jo Underwood)
Dawn Lovitt
Dawn Lovitt was a Past President and valued member of the Northamptonshire Natural History Society. She worked tirelessly for its success and we shall miss her a great deal.
Jane Humfrey wrote this poem 'For Dawn' as a tribute to her and asked me to read it at her funeral as she was unable to attend. She tried to include as many of the sections of the Society as possible and the Adonis, Arion and Corydon are species of three blue butterflies that have a personal significance to them both.
For Dawn
(by Jane Humfrey)
We shall be lost without her
but we must carry on
and tread her golden pathway,
for with Dawn the sun shone.
She weathered many storms
when she was tired and worn
and was always there to help us,
our brave, courageous Dawn.
She was our solid rock,
a diamond in the sky,
a star amidst the heavens, but
why need we say 'Goodbye'
for she's walking in the meadows
with the flowers in her hair.
She's singing with the nightingales.
Her Mum and Dad are there.
She's dancing with Adonis
where the butterflies are blue,
with Arion and Corydon,
and all her friends are too -
flying with flamingos
beautiful and free,
diving with the dolphins
and surfing in the sea.
She's organising coach trips
and guided tours at Deene.
for the Natural History Society
she's preparing feasts fit for a Queen.
She has found that photo of her father
and her dream's come true. What's that?
Sitting on a mossy bank
next to Zing-Zing, her pussycat.
But with Dawn there was no nonsense
and I can hear her say
"Well I may be doing all that
but I'm here with you today."
The sun is rising in the East.
The sky is getting bright
as we thank her now with all our hearts,
for Dawn was our delight.
