Partial Solar Eclipse, 20 March 2015

The view from Northampton

On Friday 20th March, the UK will see a partial eclipse of the Sun. From Northampton, around 85% of the Sun will be hidden by the Moon.

Even with just a small part of the Sun showing, it is still dangerous to stare at the Sun or to use binoculars/telescope to observe it. A proper filter must be used otherwise you risk permanent blindness!!

From Northampton the Moon starts to touch the Sun at 8:26am, maximum eclipse is at 9:32am, and it's all over by 10:41am.

Here is a useful link to some helpful guidance on keeping safe when observing the partial eclipse: Society for Popular Astronomy information
